Together with real estate developer Vanguard Properties, Kōzōwood Industries is leading the way in Portugal’s sustainable construction industry with the establishment of the country’s first large-scale cross-laminated timber (CLT) plant. By creating an entire sustainable construction cluster in Esposende, the project will lead the traditionally concrete-heavy industry into a more sustainable future.

System TM A/S and our sister company in the HOMAG Group, Kallesoe Machinery, have supplied much of the machinery for this groundbreaking facility, which is a major step in promoting timber construction throughout the country.

Kōzōwood Industries is a leader in the timber construction industry, offering exceptional solutions through its Kozowood and Ooty brands. On February 29th, they celebrated the opening of their new state-of-the-art mass timber production facility in Portugal, featuring System TM and Kallesoe Machinery equipment.

The investor Vanguard Properties has entered into a partnership with Kōzōwood Industries in 2021.  They will invest a total of €50 million (through 2025) in the CLT production facility in Esposende, which will produce wooden houses for the developer’s projects.

The new facility has already doubled the company’s workforce and capacity to produce up to 1,000 units per year. The team is expected to triple in size to a total of 300 employees over the next year and a half as production capacity ramps up.

This impressive new production line will ensure that they can fulfill their commitment to provide their customers with the highest quality and excellence for exceptional residential and commercial buildings.

System TM’s contribution to this facility includes an Opti-Kap cross-cut line including an Opti-Feed 6000 Vack, Opti-Kap 3003 and a range of MiCROTEC quality scanners to optimize wood utilization. The optimized workpieces are then transferred to the Opti-Joint H-L high-capacity, optimizing finger-jointing line.
